We are thrilled to announce that Keweenaw Co+op Market & Deli was named Project of the Year at the 2025 Keweenaw Community Sparkplug Awards! This incredible recognition reflects the dedication, passion, and tireless efforts of our entire team, our owners, and the community that has supported us every step of the way. Together, we made the dream of our new store a reality, and we are beyond proud of what we’ve accomplished.
This award is not just for our leadership team or a few individuals—it’s a celebration of everyone who has contributed to the success and growth of the co-op. From our staff who work diligently to bring the best service and products to our community, to our loyal owners and shoppers who continue to support us, this recognition belongs to all of us.
Denise Hansen: Hometown Hero of the Year
We are also incredibly proud to share that our Retail & Operations Manager, Denise Hansen, was named Hometown Hero of the Year! Back in September 2024, just one month before our new location opened, Denise’s quick thinking and strong leadership saved the life of our General Manager, Curt Webb, during a cardiac emergency at work.
Denise’s swift actions not only helped save Curt’s life, but she also stepped up as Acting General Manager, leading our co-op with incredible strength through one of the most challenging times in our history. Her leadership and dedication made all the difference as we moved forward into the grand opening of our new store.
Denise’s recognition as Hometown Hero is a testament to her courage, and her example inspires all of us to give our best every day. We are lucky to have such a dedicated leader on our team!
