Board of Directors
The Board of Directors is elected by Members to represent their values, priorities, and interests as the Owners of the Keweenaw Cooperative. Three Directors are elected each April for a three-year term. If you are interested in being a candidate at the next election, you can learn more about Board service requirements and apply through our Welcome Letter.
In addition to delegating store operations to a General Manager, the Board is responsible for answering the question To what Ends does the co-op exist? The Board’s answer to that question is captured in the co-op’s Ends Policy, and assessing progress toward those Ends is part of how the Board supervises the General Manager. The Board is also responsible for engaging with Members to understand their values and priorities, managing Member-owned equity, and assuring the financial future of the co-op.
Keweenaw Co+op Ends Policy
On behalf of our owners, Keweenaw Co+op will be a leader in our thriving and healthy local community, supported by values inherent in the cooperative model.
Our customers benefit from increasing access to food and products that improve health in ways that are environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable.
Our food producers and community benefit from a thriving, fair, resilient, and sustainable local food system.
Our community understands the value of health, healthy food, and the cost of a sustainable food system.
While shopping questions and concerns should be directed to store staff, the Board of Directors is always interested in learning more about co-op Owner values and priorities and hearing Owner questions and concerns. Please send inquiries to contactboard@keweenaw.coop.
The Board of Directors meets monthly on the 2nd Wednesday at 6:00 pm. All Owners are encouraged and welcome to attend. Details for the next meeting, including the agenda, can be found in the co-op events calendar or at the store.
