From October through December, our Round UP program is supporting the Copper Island Academy Culinary Program—always split 50/50 with the Western UP Food Bank.
Our Marketing & Outreach Coordinator, Ariele, recently visited Copper Island Academy and met with Culinary Program teacher Margaret Hanson. She got a firsthand look at the incredible ways students are learning about food. Each grade helps tend the school garden and care for the school’s chickens, while also exploring hydroponic growing. Students keep food journals, try recipes from an extensive cookbook collection, and even bake pies—like the ones first graders proudly made just before Ariele’s visit.
The program doesn’t stop there: Copper Island Academy’s beautiful teaching kitchen provides the perfect space for students to learn hands-on cooking skills, connect with their food, and grow a lifelong appreciation for nutritious, local eating.
When you choose to Round UP at the register, your change helps fund projects like these that nurture the next generation of food lovers—while continuing to support the vital work of the Western UP Food Bank. Together, we’re making a difference right here in the UP.
